It still hurts to see Tim’s streak ended while Dirk’s continues…. granted that could just be that my hatred for the mavericks burns with the intensity of 1000 suns.
Well deserved!!! I hope he doesn’t even play many minutes in the game so he can rest. Maybe he will make All NBA 3rd team this year to go along with a nice new Larry O’Brien trophy for the AT&T Center
Dirk over Timmeh is a joke. I didn’t really watch Nash enough to say whether he deserved it over Lowry, for example. The rest of the roster looks reasonable. I hope, Tony will continue his stellar play even after being selected.
Yeah, I agree. I think Rudy Gay should gotten the call instead of Dirk, just because the West team needed another SF/SG type. Only Kobe and Kevin Durant were picked.
Even though Nash is averaging a double-double and leading the league in assists, I think Ty Lwason or Kyle Lowry should have gotten the nod.
nash is posting the same stats as he did when he won the mvp…hes shooting at a ridiculous pace right now, something like 50%+ and 45% from 3 pt land. but that being said his back keeps him out of some games and his defense is a liability.
Crazy shooting numbers of 57% from the field 45 from 3 and he is shooting an awful for him 87% from the line!!!!!!! He has one of the best field goal % numbers in the whole league
It seemed obvious he deserved the spot (and I don’t say that coz I’m french !) yet we can see on the NBA website their reporter disagreeing with it (Fran Blinebury from…Houston @ Lowry’s fan?). I just hope it’s not official Spurs’ (and France :x) hate !
I can’t see all the games coz it’s always kind of late here (2 to 6 AM to watch the games) yet I didn’t see a pg except Chris Paul in the western conf having as much influence and consistency.
Named for the DLeague All-Star team were Justin Dentmon and Lance Thomas for the Toros, though Thomas is now on a callup by the Hornets. Toros coach Brad Jones will coach the West.
Fans voting makes some sense at least, because the game is played for fans. I don’t understand why Kobe and LeBron should select all-stars of the NBA. They are just players, like everyone else. It would be very hard for them NOT to select their own teammates, whether deserving or not. The whole idea is absurd.
I think that the NHL started the whole “have the top 2 players draft the all-star team” thing for the NHL all-star game, no? And by “top 2 players” I guess I mean “top 2 vote-getters”, although I’m not sure if LeBron or Dwight Howard got more votes.
The whole all-star weekend is pretty worthless and hard to watch. So I’m not opposed to them changing things up to try to provide some entertainment value.
But I also realize that’s not too high a priority in Spurs World.
It is, but just as many fans have a tough time with the votes. I think it should be a combination at least. Yao/Tmac were a good example of this. Or Vince Carter/Grant Hill injury years.
Well, the compromise would be something like the top 2 vote getters + head coach get to pick the rest of the team. Although Kobe might be not the best personality in the world, he’s smart and would pick well. I’d bet on that one.
he’s smart and would pick well. I’d bet on that one.
I’ll bet against you. He has no motivation to pick well. The game doesn’t mean anything. He has a motivation to pick his teammates (Bynum, Gasol, Metta World Peace, Fisher) to improve the Lakers chemistry. He has a motivation to pick the guys who would throw the rock to him, but won’t outshine him (Nash and Kidd may be?). As a result, it won’t be all-star game, it would be one star game and the celebration of the Lake-show. And, do we really want our guys, Tim, Manu and Tony to play for Kobe??? I don’t want them to depend on his whims in any, even very little, sense. As pathetic as is the game right now (I don’t think I’m going to waste my time watching it this year), it would be ever more pathetic with Kobe/Bron at the helm. It is a popularity contest, something like a beauty pageant, right now. Bad enough, but making it Kobe/Bron showdown? Just a travesty.
“the celebration of the Lake-show.” Hey, that does sound pretty good. And you’re right, Tim, Manu and Tony would just be in the way. But maybe they could be like the Washington Generals or something.
You know I still love Fisher. He’s been a Laker 13 years and has been starter in The Finals something like 7 times (hey that’s like more than 50% and more than Parker & Manu combined – wow). Plus he’s earned 5 nice rings, that’s more than, well you know. . .the entire Spurs organization. So I gotta say I still love him.
I don’t like Fisher much, but he was essential for the Lakers. Their 5 rings had three common ingredients: Phil, Kobe and Fisher. Of course, the first two got all the glory, but I think that Fish was important for them as well.
“Yes, but most fans . . . want him gone.”
It’s funny because if you listen to the LAL post-game call-in show people have wanted Fisher gone for years and years even while we were winning championships.
Now callers are even saying . . . “LAL has no chance with Kobe (always jackin’ up shots, etc., etc.)” Hell that may be true but without Kobe, the Lakers would have as much chance as firckin’ Atlanta.
Lakers fans are spoiled and forget how much Kobe & Fisher have done. I can’t think of a back-court duo who have accomplished as much over as many years* – and that’s not even meant as a swipe at the Spurs NTTAWWT :).
*I don’t know if Jordan won his rings with the same point guard. And I prefer to keep it that way.
I think people should be grateful for what Fisher has done. Most fans are just “what have you done for me lately” type fans.
Well there’s always been the Kobe jacking up shots. He falls into that trap occasionally. I can’t be too hard for that criticism, because usually Lakers are losing when that happens. He might have nice individual statlines though.
That said, Lakers need to re-build their roster. They shouldn’t always go for the homerun and focus on adding quality glue/role player guys. They are a little slow in getting those guys back on the team as they once had.
I agree with this.
My opinion is that Dirk was chosen simply because the Mavs won the title last year…and I still hate them.
At least Timmeh gets to rest.

In fairness to Dirk, even he said he shouldn’t be in the All-Star game this year. Nice and honest guy, that dude.

I don’t hold it against him, just the guys who gave this to him. Pau Gasol and Duncan are both more deserving, for example.
