Coming off of a win against the Houston Rockets, The San Antonio Spurs enter their firth game in seven nights, taking on the New Orleans Hornets, who they saw ten nights ago in the Big Easy. In this strenuous season, on any given night, any team can win. Nothing can be expected this season.

The Hornets are fresh off a loss to the Phoenix Suns 120-103 in New Orleans last night. Steve Nash toasted them for 30 points (on 13-16 shooting) and 10 assists while Gortat chipped in for 23 (6-10 shooting) points and 11 rebounds. Although, both teams shot well all over the court, the Phoenix Suns lived at the free throw line, scoring 32 points from the stripe (shooting 32-39).
Spurs had to come back against the very familiar Houston Rockets last night. In doing so, Parker played 38 minutes and Duncan played 30.5 minutes. Tiago only played 17 minutes, making him the big with the least amount of minutes.
Look for Pop to introduce interesting lineups as this game is the fifth game in seven nights (and second back-to-back in this week). Pop will severely limit Duncan's minutes in this matchup, or not play him at all. Spurs no long have Malcolm Thomas on their roster, so look for big minutes (fouls withstanding) for Tiago and lots of small ball with Leonard likely seeing the 4-position.
Last time NOH met the Spurs, Jarret Jack continued his best season of his career, putting up stellar numbers against the Spurs. Although the game was a shootout, the Spurs made it difficult for themselves, by not limiting getting back on fast breaks.
Additionally, the Hornets frontline abused the Spurs front line. This prompted Pop to play Blair 9 minutes in the second half (no minutes in the 4th quarter). Pop rode Duncan and Bonner in the 3rd quarter, and then rotated Duncan and Bonner with Splitter to close out the game.

Game Prediction:
As always Tony must dominate Fisher, and NBA league pass is recommended for those who are willing to pony up the cash. Almost every Spurs game will be broadcast there, which is especially helpful for those of us who aren't in the San Antonio area. Please don't post links to illegal game feeds in the game thread. Links to illegal feeds are not permitted on SBNation, but you can probably find them out there on the internets if you're resourceful and desperate.

Nice work grego. It’ll be interesting to see how Pop plays the game tonight with how many minutes Duncan and Parker logged last night. Either way, I hope the NOOCH are just as worn out from trying to keep up with Nash last night.

Start Tiago, rest TD for Saturday against OKC, and call up Thomas for tonight.

Right to the point Grego. Good work.

Apparently, Tony Parker is 13 assists away from tying Avery Johnson as the all-time franchise leader. Something to keep an eye on. :)
Tim C. - February 2, 2012
But he never passes the ball!

Anybody want a peanut?

You killed my father, now prepare to die.

Trade him before people get the idea that he’s a real poing guard.

Clippers have talked to Keyon Martin for a 2.5 mid level. Martin has a home in LA and is friends with Billups. Hard for him to turn that dow. Slob city will probably steal him away….

I’m hoping his home being in Houston helps sway his decision towards the Spurs. I know we aren’t the most likely destination for free agents at the moment but the Spurs could still win it all with a few more pieces, if not as they are built right now.

Why is it that we want him so badly? It seems like Drew Gooden all over again.
Big50 - February 2, 2012
True true, I rather just get another big guy for defense but if we could get Keyon on the cheap that wouldn’t be too bad.
Outkastprince - February 2, 2012
because he is the exact oposite of Gooden.
Drew is a scoring forward that never passes and can rebound a bit, while Kenyon is a defensive player who knows his role but is an awful rebounder.
Chilai - February 2, 2012
Good point, but you didn’t convince me to want him. I’m assuming we’d want him so he could match up on guys like Aldridge and Dirk?
Big50 - February 2, 2012
And get under Cuban’s skin.
SleepCrack - February 2, 2012 via mobile
He is a defensive 4 who we could sign for very little money. We have Bonner and Blair….those two arent defensive 4’s.
Chilai - February 2, 2012
This is a win we must have, losing to the Hornets would no likely sting.
Outkastprince - February 2, 2012
I see what you did there.
It’s a must win, if you think they have no chance against OKC. But then I guess every game is a must win..

Great rally last night! Nearly lost my voice at the game. Haha! Spurs better jump on these Hornets early tonight. Got to continue winning! Go Spurs Go!

Sorry for the random thought, but what happened to this guy?

I want RJ to pump fake and drive to the rack, JUST ONCE! Its like the only time he tried was the botched alley oop that he was fouled on and somehow fell through the net…..in what i believe was the orlando game. I am in the minority as an RJ supporter, but he cant hide behind the three point line forever.
Spurs Yoda - February 2, 2012
I remember that dunk. Still hoping for RJ to mix it up a bit and indeed once in a while drive like this.
Bakkie009 - February 2, 2012
He’s actually more efficient, with the midrange pull up. I think he’s shied away from doing that which has removed some of his dribbling turnovers.
Well he did have an oop with Green, but no dunk.
grego21 - February 2, 2012
What about Backdoor cut + good screen by duncan + alley oop to RJ

There are many on youtube with him in sa, and i feel he has just lost his aggressive drive completely this season. He used to be one of the best in the league.
Spurs Yoda - February 2, 2012
I hate hate the Jefferson situation. Why cant he do BOTH things? To shoot open 3’s, but attack the rim here and there? The rare ocassions that he cuts to the rim end up in pretty good results.
I liked that Popovich tried to mold him into a spurs player. But hey RIchard…..you can still DO OTHER THINGS, you know! Its not necesarry to become the heir to Michael Finley. He was old and couldnt jump or run no more. YOU CAN, I’ve SEEN IT.
Chilai - February 2, 2012
Well he’s doesn’t have the best of dribbles. A big reason why he’s more efficient is he doesn’t drive as often. This might be by coaching design.

Ed (dfjmed) - February 2, 2012
I want to see Gustavo Ayon playing … and what he can do
cuentaluis1 - February 2, 2012
I saw him play against Argentina if I remember correctly. Seemed like a good player, good fundamentals, good at doing a bit of everthing but nothing that jumps out at you.
