The Spurs are rolling into Canada playing good basketball (except for that 4th quarter in Mo-Town) just in time to get a SEGABABA trap game. The Raptors are not too good. They are 28th in the NBA in Offensive Rating and 18th in the league in Defensive Rating, according to basketball-reference.com. Which of course makes this a perfect trap game. A bad team at home getting the Spurs on the back end of a back to back, what could possibly go wrong?

I'll admit it, I'm not even sure who the Raptors have on their roster. Canada's pride and joy has been irrelevant for so long that people in Toronto are starting to root for baseball season. I'm kidding, they want their Maple Leafs to win at all cost and would give up ever being relevant in basketball to lift Lord Stanley's Cup. Let's get real, the NBA in Toronto is really just so American's living there can watch some live basketball 81 times a year, or 33 times in this year's case. I feel bad for Canada, I really do. Think about it, they've had Vince Cater, Tracy McGrady and Chris Bosh all in their prime and they all left. Basketball should be fun and you shouldn't lose every single good player you ever get just because you're America's hat.

All kidding aside, this is a game that the Spurs should be able to handle with ease. The Velociraptors (which is what I believe they should be called) did give the Lakers a much closer game than the Hollywoodites would have liked a few days ago, but they got punked by the New York Lins Knicks last night (I actually wrote that before the game, no really, I did). Really, as much as I would like to claim this is trap game, Toronto being on a back end of a SEGABABA more or less nullifies that excuse. Granted, they played at home and our Spurs will be getting deported from Detroit, but that's still not a good excuse.
Let's get to some keys to victory:
Come on, I had to get in my yearly shot at the Motor City and I didn't want to upset our friends over at DBB on Valentines. Anyway, having checked out the Velociraptors roster for the first time there are several names I recognize. Barbosa is a old familier foe, DeRozen has been on some highlights I've seen, Kleiza was once the tallish white guy that played with the Thuggets, Butler was once considered by some to be Bruce Bowen's replacement for our Spurs, oh, and Bayless tore the Spurs up at some time in the past (plus he spells his first name weird). That's plenty of guys that have at some point been a pain in the side of Spursdom. Let's hope that collectively they are as good as their record indicates.
On to your song of the of the day:
To the lineups, I must admit that I'm not confident that either lineup is particularly accurate. Manu may or may not start and Toronto is without Bargnani.

Game Prediction: Spurs win it in another close one for Toronto to break the hearts of those valant few Velociraptor fans paying attention.
As always Tony must dominate Fisher, and NBA league pass is recommended for those who are willing to pony up the cash. Almost every Spurs game will be broadcast there, which is especially helpful for those of us who aren't in the San Antonio area. Please don't post links to illegal game feeds in the game thread. Links to illegal feeds are not permitted on SBNation, but you can probably find them out there on the internets if you're resourceful and desperate.

This is sort of a trap – Spurs have an important game against the Clips on Saturday, so if they get caught looking ahead, watch out.

the first half of the RRT has been a mine field
spursfan87 - February 15, 2012
Detroit game was a trap game. Spurs handled it pretty well until they built up their lead. Then pigs were flying and Ben Wallace was knocking down a 3-pt shot.

Nice.

The Raptors are out of hope and energy after last nights game and the Spurs are flying home after the game. Both sides will be suffering a little “let somebody else do it”. So it’s Tiago to the rescue time. After 33 mins. last night, Tim needs to rest.
indiancharlie - February 15, 2012
Spurs’ fan should know that #1 key is to have the other team score less points than you.
btw: 41 home games not 81.

NBA League pass
The by-line is always “…and NBA league pass is recommended for those who are willing to pony up the cash. Almost every Spurs game will be broadcast there…”
I would like to know how that is true. I have ponied up the cash and can’t ANY Spurs games on it. Maybe if I lived in New York I could get them. The problem is Foxsports SW. Since they show Spurs games, they prevent the NBA league pass from showing them. I don’t get cable, so I’m screwed.
NBA League Pass specifically states:
“Local and national market blackout rules apply based on your location.”
So stop selling NBA League Pass and please tell us how we really can get the games.
SteveH09 - February 15, 2012
Well, if you live in the SA area that is to be expected.
ironm8 - February 15, 2012
those blackouts makes sense
ironm8 - February 15, 2012
NBA League Pass blackouts
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I live in the San Antonio area but I PAID for the games. I think it’s up to NBA League pass to make a deal with the local providers to get the games I signed up for and paid for.
Adding basic cable would cost me > $600/year.
I just can’t find a better price to get live Spurs games.
SteveH09 - February 15, 2012
I know exactly what you mean, I can’t afford League Pass this year either, so i just look for stream online. There are quite a few, just Google.
The quality is horrid, but for something for free i can’t complain
ironm8 - February 15, 2012
Yep. Google sports lemon. Or roja directa. Or oleoletv.
Edg5 - February 15, 2012
Austin too.
Cedarpark - February 15, 2012
The by-line is:
I don’t think anyone is trying to "sell" League Pass.
Edg5 - February 15, 2012
I think it would be more accurate to say… "…which is ONLY helpful for those of us who aren’t in the San Antonio area. "
SteveH09 - February 15, 2012
that might be a good fix, so guys wont fall to this tarp
ironm8 - February 15, 2012
This is one game where I doubt Manu starts.
Green seems perfect for DeRozen. Leonard would be second choice, but not Manu, who still looks like he’s getting his legs back.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
As long as they’re trying to hold Manu to 25 minutes or less, his minutes are better spent off the bench……either Manu or Tony need to be in the game with Gary Neal. When Manu is ready to get 30 minutes or more, he’ll need to start…..it’s very difficult to get 30 or more productive minutes off the bench.
cocanat - February 15, 2012
Well, yes. I agree with that. Until TJ is back, Manu should be off the bench. It makes the most sense to work him back.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
That three he air-balled was pretty bad.
ironm8 - February 15, 2012
That’s why it makes even more sense for him to play backup PG with Neal.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
I kind of like the idea of manu permanently coming off the bench, its been a successful recipe in years past.
The Calvinator - February 15, 2012
I think Manu breaks out in this game. Just a feeling I have. Or maybe I’m just an overly optimistic fantasy owner.
Tim C. - February 15, 2012
I have him on my team as I just picked him up off the waivers, but I don’t think he breaks out. I think he’ll continue his passing, but he can’t have his legs back that quickly. If you need FG%, I think he’s one to avoid at the moment.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
Not sure why it killed my post, but I think for fantasy, he’s good if you need assists, but shooting percentage wise, he’s still probably not a safe bet. I don’t think he breaks out just yet. I also picked him up on the waivers the other day.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
If only the Spurs had Lin, they’d have the home crowd on their side… :)
grego21 - February 15, 2012
i know everybody says “basketball is a game of runs” but how many times have the spurs blown big leads this season? from the top of my head i can list the spurs blowing a comfortable lead against nuggets, grizzlies, heat, thunder, nets, and the pistons. in that thunder game the spurs didn’t completely blow it but they were up 20 then like 3 min later the lead had shrunk to 8. the offense just completely vanishes and the defense is just too inconsistent. anyways, even without bargnani, i think this game is going to be real tough
Starscream210 - February 15, 2012 via mobile
Runs tend to happen due to players being human, in my opinion. When you know you’re up 20 you relax. It’s natural. The key is to realize they are on a run a overcome the natural tendency to ease up.
Big50 - February 15, 2012
i see what ur saying and i sort of agree, i mean i know blowing a lead is a bit common but it shouldn’t happen everytime. it kind of reminds me of the old spurs before we had jefferson, blair, hill, etc. where the spurs would always go on a drought. the only difference from that spurs team to this spurs team is that the spurs used to play suffocating defense so it wasn’t as bad imo
Starscream210 - February 15, 2012 via mobile
Detroit is a trap game. They got the lead and, they were like “hey, this is Detroit, we can coast and just jump shoot the game to victory”
That didn’t work and then Detroit just got so much momentum, and you also had Ben Wallace burying a 3pointer. That said, the team D was solid, except for in the 4th (when the Pistons got momentum and Spurs were getting out of their coasting), when the Pistons hit 57.9% and made 3/7 from 3pt land.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
BTW, Pistons only scored 16 points in the 3rd quarter.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
I think Anderson should get Anderson’s minutes tonight. Have Neal rest, dont take any unnecessary risks with his ankle.
spursfan87 - February 15, 2012
I hope so too.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
lol…
Starscream210 - February 15, 2012 via mobile
I always call them by their full name—it’s so much cooler than plain old “raptors.”
Last night’s game was the Toronto Velociraptors vs. the New York Knickerbockers :D
Trey Felder - February 15, 2012
I could see us losing in a close game tonight. Calderon has been on fire lately.
Spurs Yoda - February 15, 2012 via mobile
Calderon is streaky. He has a set of games where he looks really good. Then he falls back down. It did a number on my fantasy team until I dumped him for better.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
And as 50 stated, Bayless is on that “Spurs Killer” list
Dark Black - February 15, 2012 via mobile
Hey Drums your MoneybalLIN post was awesome. I didn’t post over there because I didn’t want to mess up your comment to rec ratio.
Also, anyone notice Manu tweeting about Lin last night? Everyone in the NBA knows about Lin!
