poor ralph!
Chilai - February 14, 2012
I guess we’ll bring the discussion in here.
DrumsInTheDeep - February 14, 2012
exactly, but there’s a BIG difference with soccer: in soccer players flop at everything. I mean EVERYTHING. And not only that, they fake injuries ALL THE FRICKIN TIME. One of the so many reasons I stopped watching soccer.
Chilai - February 14, 2012
Oh I hate the fake injuries, then they’re just fine five minutes later.
Birdman84 - February 14, 2012
Paul Pierce says hi.
Tim C. - February 14, 2012
I hate it when I recall what he did
bluesteelxvii - February 14, 2012
that irritates me so much… I lost any respect I had for Pierce at that point
Jordan Leithart - February 14, 2012
they roll in the floor like they are suffering from an amputated leg just so the other player gets a yellow or red card…..I HATE IT
Chilai - February 14, 2012
My family being from South America and avid soccer watchers, I see this all of the time. I used to think it was because they were tired and just needed the extra couple seconds of rest.
SpursCupcake - February 14, 2012
That’s part of it. It’s also used to kill the other team’s momentum.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
Yes! Exactly.
SpursCupcake - February 14, 2012
Discussion? I’m with you, bronster. High five.
LatinD - February 14, 2012
Oh? Well, that was easy.
DrumsInTheDeep - February 14, 2012
I believe there was no discussion. Flop should only be called out when there is no foul. If there’s a foul, then is selling it or overreacting.
Sh!fty - February 14, 2012
I thought the league was going to start fining for flops a few years ago? I guess it got nixed.
garrettelliott - February 14, 2012
I’ll repeat what I said in the other thread: I don’t think it’s related to soccer. Most international players grow up playing organized ball. Drawing fouls becomes a bigger part of their games from the get go.
There’s also a cultural difference as to how flops are perceived; in America it seems that flopping is a considered a blow to the players masculinity. Basketball is considering a man’s game and physical attributes are consider the most important thing for a player to posses; if you can’t hang physically you are regarded as less of a man or at least less of a player. That stigma is not present for most international players, so when they find themselves at a physical disadvantage, they don’t hesitate to do the smart thing and exaggerate contact to get a call.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
Case in point.
Maybe that guy was being sarcastic or maybe he was just pissed because his team lost, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come across comments like that.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
Seeing a flop is frustrating. Especially when you know, without the flop, it would just be a normal basketball play that probably wouldn’t be called for a foul since the offensive player is not being aggressive. So when refs legitimize the flop by calling it, it seems like a bail out for a player who couldn’t play D on their own.
garrettelliott - February 14, 2012
I agree that it is frustrating, but isn’t getting in position to get the foul playing D, though? There are some indefensible flops, but when a guy realizes he is physically overmatched and gets position to get a call, I think that’s just good, smart D.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
But it’s the ones where the offensive player isn’t even being overly aggressive that bug everyone. Where the flopper falls to the floor like he’s been shot out of a cannon and his reaction to the “hit” is totally disproportionate to the amount of force he was hit with. Those really grind my gears. I don’t think that’s good D at all. I do, however, think it’s smart because it makes the refs react.
Pistons fans weren’t complaining when Laimbeer did it.
garrettelliott - February 14, 2012
I only find the ones where there’s not contact annoying. If you move your feet, get position and take a hit, regardless of how hard it actually was, I think you’ve played good D.
We’ve had good floppers over the years so that’s probably why I feel that way, though.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
So. Many. Mistakes.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
Pretty sure my Breaking Bad comic did the trick.

SleepCrack - February 14, 2012
That fourth quarter was as much fun as a visit to the proctologist. When Ben Wallace is hitting outside jumpers as part of a 16-0 or so scoring spurt for Detroit, things look bad. But as ugly as this season is going to be at times, these are the sorts of games teams will have to win. Even with that, the Spurs need only win one of their next five games to finish 5-4 on an extended road trip and a conservative estimate probably puts that at 6-3.
0signal - February 14, 2012
I’m not saying you guys have to….but if you wanted to….you could celebrate the win with a little bit of this:

garrettelliott - February 14, 2012
No. We have to. Now that we’ve seen it we have to, there’s no going back.
Hipuks - February 14, 2012
That one’s good.
Edg5 - February 14, 2012
It’s tough not to keep watching this.
grego21 - February 14, 2012
I had to miss this game. It looks like things got a little ugly, haha. Nevertheless, another win!
GSG!
Manu ex Machina - February 14, 2012
Didn’t get to see the game, had to bring my sister to the hospital for some shots. Got scratched by a stray cat. Anyway, game didn’t go as we all expected huh? Too ugly. Glad we got the win though! Will join you guys in the threads for tomorrow’s game. See ya!
anirontag - February 14, 2012
rabies shots? BatManu knows a thing or two about it.

RobertHorryRobertHorry - February 15, 2012

grego21 - February 15, 2012
Good win, Splitter is becoming a beast.
alamobro - February 14, 2012
yay!
unfortunately i can’t watch the replay when i get home tonight. so…how did it end up so close?
sleep research facility - February 14, 2012
Ben MF Wallace.

garrettelliott - February 14, 2012
He played great for the Pistons tonight.
I loved how well Leonard and Tiago played. Timmy looked like old school Timmy and the Pistons game announcers were surprisingly pretty fair in calling the game. Good win even though we blew a nice sized lead.
Go Spurs GO!
gunnin' gervin - February 14, 2012
Spurs got a case of the Tarp game after they built up their lead.
grego21 - February 14, 2012
yeah they did. Ben sparked the Pistons come back big time
gunnin' gervin - February 15, 2012
I saw that 3 and then I was like “crap…”
grego21 - February 15, 2012
I am a fan of ben wallace since his championship season in 2004 ….
Sounds like a bandwagon but … He won my respect since that moment
*Not to mention that he is a real shot blocker … not like Dwight (Mr Goaltending)
cuentaluis1 - February 14, 2012
yeah, me too. That finals series against the Spurs was awesome wasn’t it?
anirontag - February 15, 2012
Oh Robert Horry, how I love the
grego21 - February 15, 2012
Go Hawks!!
cuentaluis1 - February 14, 2012
-TD on wallace
rank - February 14, 2012
Yeah, I seen that they hugged at the end of the game and chatted a little bit. Ben does look like he could play a few more years with the right team. He was getting up and down the court with no problem and he played pretty solid defense on Timmy in stretches
gunnin' gervin - February 14, 2012
I hope Ben sticks around with the Pistons as one of Arnie Kander’s strength and conditioning dudes. Plus he could mentor the bigs with all of his defensive know-how.
garrettelliott - February 14, 2012
I read some where that Ben wants to be a lawyer. That would be cool if he became a lawyer but I most definitely can see him being a strength and conditioning coach.
gunnin' gervin - February 15, 2012
wow. He’ll make a pretty intimidating lawyer then! Imagine that!
anirontag - February 15, 2012
Very classy. Timmy’s the best.
silverandblack_davis - February 14, 2012
The question is
Are we going to need a game-winner to beat the raptors?
cuentaluis1 - February 14, 2012
Perhaps. It depends how the team comes out. I think it should be a more active game.
grego21 - February 14, 2012
If thats the case, Who is the better option?
>Ginobili
>Neal
>Green
>Duncan
>Parker
cuentaluis1 - February 14, 2012
At this point, you go to Parker, since Manu is still getting his game legs under him. You should still have him in the game as a key option though.
grego21 - February 14, 2012
Parker with high pick and roll with Duncan. That should open up the lane or an open shot as he gets around the pick.
grego21 - February 14, 2012
Bonner
spursfan87 - February 15, 2012
Sounds crazy but at this point we should not be surprised
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K9HDJg1j6Y
cuentaluis1 - February 15, 2012
Not Green.
silverandblack_davis - February 15, 2012
i’m fine with him taking a last second shot if he gets it off the pass. He’s not afraid to take the shot. And that’s why I’m fine with it.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
What if they would have counted the shot against Dallas?
alamobro - February 15, 2012
In some plays it looked good. Yep… And it’s still debatable. It wasn’t that clear.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
It looked good to me. I had a decent view via league pass HD feed on my 24 inch computer screen. But I guess it doesnt beat whatever the refs are using (doesnt beat their final say in the matter, either )
alamobro - February 15, 2012
Just for the simple fact that he’s not a shooter, from a pureness and accuracy standpoint. I’ll take my chances with the percentages over ice-water veins.
silverandblack_davis - February 15, 2012
To me, it’s not as much a shooter, but a guy not afraid to take the basket. Honestly, Manu is not a shooter. He’s a winner, but not a shooter. I’d still like him taking the last minute shots. Parker isn’t either. But he knows how to get to the basket.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
I think a had a minor orgasm after each of those two Tiago/Manu pick and rolls in the second half…..
alamobro - February 15, 2012
Also, Kawhi shoud not be driving to the hoop and dishing ( not yet anyway )
alamobro - February 15, 2012
I’m ok with him learning on the job. Until the brain fart, the Spurs were doing pretty well. The problem with him in the past was he was too tentative. I think he needs to continue to be aggressive. It’s the only way he’s going to learn. And in order for him to be on the court he’s going to have to give a little bit on the offensive end as well.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
Hahah. But you gotta admit that Tiago rolls well with just about everyone…. except George Hill.
grego21 - February 15, 2012
Manu got one point in 24 minutes? WTF?
eastbaysd - February 15, 2012
With 7 assists, a team high +17 and a single turnover.
alamobro - February 15, 2012
Spurs are going to amnesty him by the end of this season.
