waaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Manu-carpal, please come back!
TDzilla! - January 2, 2012
Get well soon manu :(
play_splitter - January 2, 2012
TD has been at practice, comes in after a hard workout and Pop chewing his ear.
“How come you guys weren’t at practice? Pop was steamed.”
TP: “Practice? We talking about practice?”
Manu: “Tony spiked my pre-practice sports drink. I can’t feel my feet.”

I would’ve been first, but I hurt my left hand typing. Think it’s the pinky, too.

You can look at it differently; they actually letting him play in DAL
hurts2bgood - January 2, 2012
can’t believe he learned something in Dallas
TDzilla! - January 2, 2012
He learned everything with the Spurs but DAL is taking advantage of it.
hurts2bgood - January 2, 2012
wow
Ayatollah - January 2, 2012
How about fouls? I really wish we had kept him.
Manu ex Machina - January 2, 2012
Didn’t make sense to keep him, at the time. At least, for him as a person, he’s able to prosper now that he’s not at the complete bottom of the bench.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
True, but I wanted to hang on to him even then. Selfish, yeah, but I wanted to see him get past his fouling issues and reach his potential.
Manu ex Machina - January 2, 2012
Call this whatever oppurtunity you like for the younger guys, this sucks for us.

That was a frequent comment at Canis Hoopus.
The Spurs announcers were boring but effective. Just like the Spurs have always been.
Cynical Jason - January 2, 2012
Can someone fill me in on Manu? What happened? During the game?

What do you mean Manu is hurt…… you’re lying!!

TrooperJoe73 - January 2, 2012
Well… this begs the question… do we make a move?
Ed (dfjmed) - January 2, 2012
No
doubleteapot - January 2, 2012
No. You can’t. Spurs depth is at the wings. You now show whether it is real depth or fake depth.
You have Anderson, Green, Leonard, RJ and Neal (who will be back soon).

does anybody know how long Manu may be out with this kind of injury?
Kondor - January 2, 2012
At least a month at minimum.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
The whole year
doubleteapot - January 2, 2012
7-10 weeks is my guess.
TrooperJoe73 - January 2, 2012
Not many positives from the game, especially since Twolves had so many TOs yet still won by a decent margin.
RJ, Green, Splitter, Ford all had pretty good games.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
Timmy’s outside shot looked good early on.
Spurs Kiwi - January 2, 2012
Forgot about that. Yep. he looked good early on. Very active as we wanted him to be.

doubleteapot - January 2, 2012
Stern sucks!
TDzilla! - January 2, 2012
Yes, in some ways it could be a blessing as Manu avoids the harsh season and is fresher (in the way he plays). At least Spurs weaknesses are not at the wings with RJ/Anderson/Leonard/Green/Neal
[Trying to be positive]
grego21 - January 2, 2012
Some dude on ESPN said that this is what happened to Boozer last season, and he missed 2 months. So there’s a bit of perspective.
Manu ex Machina - January 2, 2012
although boozer is a bit of a pussy sooo…
Micheal S - January 2, 2012
Which rightly sets Manu on the aforementioned 4-6 weeks track. =)
Manu ex Machina - January 3, 2012
Pop: Anderson starts
grego21 - January 2, 2012
Pop just said &erson starts now.
indiancharlie - January 2, 2012
it’s time to show your stuff Mr. &erson!
TDzilla! - January 2, 2012
Well, sink or swim time for Anderson.
Ed (dfjmed) - January 2, 2012
It’s a collective effort, but this should help him, Leonard and Green (especially him since he was getting very little time). Also good for Neal as there was a logjam once he got back.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
My best case scenario is that Anderson plays good enough to be a starter SG, finds his shot back and his confidence. When Manu returns, comes off the bench with Neal, Leonard, Tiago and Bonner.
spursfan87 - January 2, 2012
Well, in the best case, it means the team develops more weapons and bolsters the bench. This could play useful down the stretch. A fresh Manu for the post season ain’t bad either…
[Staying positive]
grego21 - January 2, 2012
then we get even better in the long run

“Bang!!”
Spurs Kiwi - January 2, 2012
already seen a number of comments (mostly from non-spurs fans) saying we’re done and dusted. let’s prove those bastards wrong.
sleep research facility - January 2, 2012
Oh those
idiotspeople always come out of the wood works everytime something like this happens… like if we lose a game. I’m used to it by now.Ed (dfjmed) - January 2, 2012
Let the young guns roll.
Heman - January 2, 2012
I’m almost tempted to join the “tank” crowd. But, we’re not getting a good seed unless Anderson and RJ can muster up some Manuesque magic.
Tim C. - January 2, 2012
It’s early enough in the season that I think it’s better that it occurred now. I thought Spurs did pretty well at the wing positions this game. Twolves shot like crazy though.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
Yeah, prior to this game, Spurs were 12th in shooting percentage defense, which is better than last season. Now, probably not so much.
Tim C. - January 2, 2012
Honestly, I don’t think that changes too much. I’d argue as magical as Manu is, his perimeter defense isn’t as great as it once was. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’d always want him to close a game, but Anderson has a better, younger body so for the season, I don’t think the drop off is as big as it would seem. They’ll miss Manu’s offense more than his D.
I think this is where Parker now becomes more of a scorer (6 assist/night) rather than 8 assist/night) type game.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
I was thinking more in terms of this specific game’s effect on that stat.
More concerning to me is that the obvious “hero” in every Spurs win this season so far was Manu. Every time.
Tim C. - January 2, 2012
At least, Neal is coming back soon. Parker has some of those abilities. And Duncan is no stranger. I’m sad, but I can live with it now than end of January.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
I think what we would be missing is Manu’s play making more than his scoring. Hope Tony steps up without burning himself out before Manu returns..
Heman - January 2, 2012
At least Spurs now have Ford. And Joseph (until Neal comes back).
grego21 - January 2, 2012
I think RJ’s playing OK so far. Maybe this is his time to shine.
Spurs Kiwi - January 2, 2012
That will be nice to see, but he works best with Manu.
day_late_friend - January 2, 2012
His game is working well with everyone now that he can shoot off the quick dribble.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
I agree. I saw some of those pick and pop plays and the quick release last season but the Spurs veered away from those plays. They’re using it more often this season.
day_late_friend - January 2, 2012
At least they looked at the game tape and went “oh, look, that worked well”
grego21 - January 2, 2012
we’ve got to believe in a shortened season seeding will matter less – in 99 the Knicks made the Finals from the 8th seed. If we have a fresh manu we match up better against probable first seed OKC than about any other team in the west.
RamblingSpur - January 2, 2012
Also, the consistency in the play o0f teams right now, especially with back-to-back-to-backs makes it easier for teams to not pull away.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
Honestly, I dont care about seeding at this point. All that I want is for the SPurs to make the playoffs with good health.
Heman - January 2, 2012
Yes, I believe so. That’s not to say that Manu isn’t important. They’ll definitely have a tough time against the top teams, but their schedule in the first half has a decent amount of home games. The depth for the Spurs is at the wings, so at least it’s in this area and not elsewhere.
grego21 - January 2, 2012

Well, shit. That game was horrible. Manu, get well soooon. And Neal, you, too.
Aren’t we glad we didn’t make one of those hypothetical Neal trades?

It depends on what the trade would have brought back. Hey, it’s pure hypothetical though.

Spurs Yoda - January 2, 2012
The first game of 2012 and we lose the one player we couldn’t really afford to lose. This shortened season just got a bit longer for us.
Kondor - January 2, 2012
We’ll be fine. I didn’t watch the game, but losing Manu for a month shouldn’t doom our (regular) season. If he comes back in time to get ready for the playoffs (which we will make) it’s OK. It’s time to stop relying on Manu’s magic and start executing to get wins. Tony is going to score 20 a game.
Let’s see of we really have something on Anderson and Leonard. Plus, the Nailgun is coming back soon :)
Edg5 - January 2, 2012
Spurs depth at the wings finally gets a test. Is it real? We’ll see…
Anderson/Leonard/RJ/Green/Neal.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
Exactly. Manu was the only one of the Big Three that actually had capable backups. If this was Tony, our season would be in a lot of trouble.
Anderson running the pick and roll with the starters and Tony being really aggressive for a month? I can live with that.
Hopefully losing Manu for a while doesn’t damage the team’s morale too much.
Edg5 - January 2, 2012
A good sign was Green making great use of his time. He defended Rubio solid.
grego21 - January 2, 2012
But played well overall. That sweet 3-pt stroke doesn’t hurt either.

He’s a damned waterbug on the court. Didn’t notice him much tonight, though.
Cynical Jason - January 2, 2012
I didn’t get to catch tonight’s game. After the lockout, I decided against League Pass, so I don’t get to catch games like before. Even if he didn’t do much tonight, I still have faith he’ll step up.

Tim C. - January 3, 2012
That might be true, but his stay will only be short if it is even happening as once Neal is back, Spurs are still pretty stacked at the wing positions.
