Ed (dfjmed) - January 11, 2012
Yep. We needed him tonight and the Wee Frenchman delivered.
Edg5 - January 11, 2012
It was a good thing to get Parker in that mode of play. Don’t want to see too many 40+ nights, but at least they are home for the rest of the week.

Fifteen. Quinceañera is this big ass party that Latino families throw for their daughters when they turn 15. Wasting a lot of money that could be better invested or saved through generations in order to close the massive wealth gap between minorities and whites.

I only caught overtime (NBA companion) and I was surprised to see a lineup of Timmy, Tiago, Tony, Kawhi and RJ. Did we play this big lineup a lot? Was Pop experimenting or was this just an adjustment to Lowry at SF for the Rockets?
TD21 - January 11, 2012
he started TP, Kawhi, RJ, Blair, TD.
anirontag - January 11, 2012
I like it that Kawhi is going to see more time at the 3. It means the five on the floor are going to be a bit bigger overall.
TD21 - January 11, 2012
the way RJ is shooting, Pop might stick with this starting group for a while.
anirontag - January 11, 2012
No Manu and Neal playing the point with TJ out may have caused that. I just hope Anderson logs some minutes to be able to improve his play.
TD21 - January 11, 2012
Neal’s D just is lame, so yeah, you can’t leave him as the starting 2.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
Yes. That was the most common line up. There was also Timmy/Green/RJ/Leonard/Tony in the end of the 4th.

SanAntonioGiant - January 11, 2012
Yay….my work let me watch the last quarter and the OT of the game. I’m glad we have Kawhi on our side, he is fastly improving and a blessing for Spurs.
How about Timmeh. I almost cried when he displayed a bit of emotion after making a bank shot and walking to the bench for a time out. The dude deserves major applause.
And TP was tuned in today which was great to see.
Heman - January 11, 2012
I think he’s been pacing himself and tonight he knew when to break out. Pop had to remind him to adjust it seems.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
I dont like that Tony had to play out of his mind for the Spurs to pull one out…

Rocket fans over at the dream shake are all crying “Refs”, it was a great game and great win.
Starscream210 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
THEY’RE crying????!!! They had a questionable call go their way in the closing seconds of the 4th.
Ed (dfjmed) - January 11, 2012
let them cry
TDzilla! - January 11, 2012
They did get a goal tend and then that weird out of bounce play where Spurs never had possession.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
But that’s how it goes. Both teams lose out from time to time.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
Tony Parker lay up that touched the glass and then was hit by one of the rockets players, the other basket interference while the ball was above the cylinder from a Leonard shot near the rim, and I still don’t see how they believed Green had possession of the ball near our basket while their shot clock was winding down. That’s just off the top of my head. But, you can’t blame the rockets fans, most fans blame the refs, it’s just the nature of basketball unfortunately.
the little o - January 11, 2012
I seem to recall a lot of Spurs posters blaming the refs too
Jordan Leithart - January 12, 2012
You mean against the Bucks? That’s ridiculous. The officials were great in that game. Who would drag the good name of those officials through the mud?
Fred Silva - January 12, 2012
I meant at the end of this game’s regulation
Jordan Leithart - January 12, 2012
I know, I was just messing around since I complained about the refs in my last recap.
Fred Silva - January 12, 2012
In the last 3 games Ian Mahinmi average more minutes than lamar odom … and they are winning, so lamar was the problem?
cuentaluis1 - January 11, 2012
Orlando might have a breakdown
TDzilla! - January 11, 2012
Did you see Pop try to kill me by taking Green out for Anderson? Thankfully Anderson continued to suck and he relied on Green down the stretch.
Fred Silva - January 11, 2012
Pop is nothing if not hard headed. A game last year comes to mind, Neal was red hot. The Spurs needed a 3 pointer to win the game against Porland. Ginobili was barely coming back from injury and was cold. What does he do? He subs the red hot Neal for Gino, Gino misses the shot, Spurs lose.
alamobro - January 11, 2012
TDzilla! - January 11, 2012
Pop loves challenges.
In his defense, I think it’s in his best interest to try to get Anderson back to playing well though. Anderson has shown it in the past.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
I havent seen him play much, but I have yet to be impressed with any aspect of Andersons game, except when he occasionally gets hot from three point land. I certainly hope he is capable of playing as well as you say, at least on a semi-consistent basis.
alamobro - January 12, 2012
I’ve seen enough of Anderson to see it. It’s just gotten messier without Manu and now Ford. I think for JA, it’s a confidence thing since he looked good even though he didn’t hit his shot earlier in the season. I think he misses Manu a lot.
Green is pretty young too but has more experience. And Leonard is a defense first type of player. He’s also bigger so that gives him advantages that are easy to utilize.
RJ killing it is sort of throwing a wrench in everything. I don’t think they should amnesty him any longer. I know he and Kawhi spent a lot of the summer together. The competition appears to be driving him among other factors.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
JA looked good last year before his injury, I’ll give you that. But this year he has looked awful. He doesn’t look like a basketball player. Did you see that fast break last night? It would be best described as uncoordinated. He looks uncomfortable and slow every time he dribbles. That’s a bad sign. There is nothing fluid about his game right now. I think we should throw him to the D-League so he can get 30+ minutes a game and hopefully figure it out.
Fred Silva - January 12, 2012
I like the D-League idea. I thought he looked fluid in the preseason games and the first few before LWM. But without practices, I can see where it is all going to crap. The more I think about it, the less I want Joseph around the team, unless he’s actually going to play.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
Some extra thoughts… Lack of camp is probably hurting JA along with practice. Pop’s been a little bit different this year. Pop has kept a short leash trying to go with the hot hand. That seems to be the biggest thing at play now.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
Gerald Wallace wants to foul him.

alamobro - January 11, 2012

TDzilla! - January 11, 2012
Na, he will have plenty of time to go Bonkers next season in LA or Dallas.
alamobro - January 11, 2012
Really? Dwight Howard is 45.1% from the free throw line this season?! 2-12 tonight?? I don’t care if he is the best big man in the game – that is unacceptable.

Orlando just doesn’t care tonight!
Ed (dfjmed) - January 11, 2012
Orlando didn’t deserve that win at the end, but I’m glad they beat Portland.
Ed (dfjmed) - January 11, 2012
+1

I can’t believe we won that game. Poor Tim was so done by overtime. Missing freethrows, layups, wide open jumpers. That last jumper that grazed the front of the rim said it all. No legs.
Fred Silva - January 11, 2012
We need to get malcom involved early.
Spurs Yoda - January 11, 2012
we need to get him in the middle of the paint

Malcolm in the Middle! rim shot

But he made that key basket right after. He had no legs, but he still was key in that win. I’ll take it. RJ’s basket, thankfully gave them that extra push and they never looked back, except Lowry made it tough.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
I hope no Rockets fans see this… Tim walked on that play. He drove the lane, got stuck, and walked. Those legs were dead. He has heart. We all know that. Chris Webber would have passed that ball, gotten it back, passed it, gotten it back, passed it, shot clock violation.
Fred Silva - January 12, 2012
I’m fine if they do. That out of bounce (where the shot clock should have run out before the game clock) play near the end of the 4th quarter and goal tending are two things that Houston got away with. So it balanced itself out.
grego21 - January 12, 2012
Yup, that overtime should have never happened. They didn’t have control of the ball and Scola had lost it to the Spurs when the ref blew the whistle and gave them the timeout. I was flipping out at the AT&T Center.
Fred Silva - January 12, 2012
Props to TD21 running the iron man tonight.

Wow, Clips are taking Miami to OT.

So, I’m hearing great things about Kawhi’s defense down the stretch. Love it.
Tim C. - January 12, 2012
Yep. Good call. I was not sure how I’d feel about that. But if Kawhi is going to play 35+ minutes, then it really doesn’ t matter if he starts or comes off the bench. Even with Anderson struggling at the moment (I think he’ll come back strong), they are still strongest at the wings. Both RJ and Leonard is nice.
I also liked Pop’s big small ball in the 4th: TD/TP/Green/RJ/KL (Green was later taken out for Splits)

Great win! Nerve-wracking, but fun.
Kawhi’s defense and rebounds kept them in the game late.
He is really looking more comfortable out there.
I loved when Timmy wrapped his arm around Kawhi near the end. Awwwww.

Some numbers…
11 — Consecutive possessions that Houston scored during San Antonio’s defensive struggles late in the first quarter.
45:18 – Parker’s playing time — most in a game since he played 47:44 on Dec. 27, 2008.
65.0 — Houston’s shooting percentage in the first quarter.

Nice! you should compile more data like this and make it a fanpost!
Josh Guyer (completely deck) - January 12, 2012
Sure. Those numbers are not mine (MYSA), but i’ll figure out something, soon.
